September 06-08

Price: 300 €

Departure on Friday Sept. 06, 2013 early in the morning after breakfast, we will visit:

*El Jem where you can visit the largest monument left from the Roman time and tracing back to the 3rd century: the coliseum. The stop will be for a good hour to walk around the arena and go underneath it to see where wild animals were kept before being used for the amphitheatre games (something people can only do in Tunisia as the monument is the most preserved coliseum in the world).

*Matmata village, a unique village in Tunisia known for the underground cave dwellings. We will visit one of those troglodyte houses.

*Douz City «the gateway of the Sahara» in Tunisia, you can go for an optional camel ride for a full hour to feel the sensation of being on the real sand dunes of the biggest Sahara desert in the world.

*Ksar Ghilane village, Ksar Ghilane is the most visited outpost in the far south of the country. This village is located at the starting point of the Sahara desert in Tunisia and home to the Grand Erg Oriental sand dune, which has the most stunning views and has provided the backdrop to many Hollywood films.

At Ksar Ghilane you will appreciate the opportunity to relax and take in the unique atmosphere of the desert. However, for the more active there is the chance to try camel trekking or quad biking over the spectacular dunes.

*Tozeur City, the capital of Bled El Jerid, the palm tree country, we will visit the most beautiful villages of the south west of the country, the only mountain oases of Tunisia: Chebika, Tamerza, Midas and Ong Djamel.

*Kairouan City, the holy city of North Africa and the first one founded by Muslims in 669 / 670 A.D. The great mosque can be there seen only from outside if we reach the city in the afternoon (the afternoon is reserved for the faithful to pray).

Kairouan City is known as well for being the capital of the carpet work in Tunisia, a handicraft brought by the first Arab Muslim women to Tunisia and therefore a short visit to a carpet cooperative will take place to complete the visit of Kairouan.

We will be back to El Mouradi Hammamet Hotel on Sept. 08, 2013 late in the afternoon.
